The actress showed up and showed out for the Accessories Council ACE Awards on Monday, June 11, thanks in part to makeup artist Nick Barose. Starting with black eyeliner on the upper and lower lash line and smudging out with black eye shadow, Barose added mascara before hitting the lid with just a bit of orange as shadow. Then, using the dress as a color reference, he placed Swarovski crystals at the inner and outer corners of the actress’s eyes.
Lupita’s hair was (naturally) on point. She rocked Senegalese twists with some cornrows on the side, which were pulled into an updo and flourished with gold cuffs.
For the Black Panther premiere in Seoul on February 5, Nyong’o turned out with a halo of kinks, adorned with a super delicate headband that looks like a series of thin gold chains. A soft smoky eye and a red lip rounded out the entire look.
Business in the Front, Party in the Back
From the front, Nyong’o’s high bun looks sleek and sophisticated, complete with a gunmetal cuff. But when she turns to the side, you can see her closely-cropped shave, which gives the look some edge. Neutral eyes and a burgundy lip added even more polish to the already chic ensemble she wore to a Black Panther press junket on January 30.
LOL, you didn’t think Nyong’o was going to the Black Panther premiere without adding another memorable hairstyle to the books, did you? Vernon François crafted this topknot on the actress, that seems to go on forever. A little gold wire brought some shine to the style, adding to the regal feel of it all.
Making the Cut
So, not only is Lupita totally gorgeous, but she’s also super relatable. The actress shared a photo of her snipping and taking down her Senegalese twists herself (which is extremely time-consuming). Godspeed, sis, Godspeed.
To the Side
The actress turned out to the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala in this gorgeous updo hairstylist Vernon François created. The combination of Senegalese twists and feed-in braids on the side give the look an updated feel. Smoky eyes and a deep lip were the perfect pairings for the sultry style.
A low puff, seen here on the actress at the Calvin Klein Collection Spring 2018 fashion show, is an easy way to give a look some sophistication when you don’t want to fuss with your hair too much. Clean, neutral makeup was just the thing to go with the low-key glam vibe the hair was giving.
Color My World
We know Nyong’o isn’t afraid to play with a little color. Of course, the hair she wore for the 2017 Met Gala was a delight, but we really love this rainbow eye shadow look she chose for the event.
Alberto E. Rodriguez
The actress turned out to Comic-Con rocking a gorgeous set of faux locs, styled into an updo with some loose tendrils on the side. Glowing skin and a neutral lip allowed her hair to take center stage.
Lupita let her texture do the talking during the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, with this super sophisticated and polished T.W.A. — teeny-weeny Afro.
The actress hit the 2017 Peabody Awards with her TWA adorned with a gold chain.
Nyong’o kept the hair pretty low-key at the Los Angeles Jungle Book premiere in April 2016. She let her kinks flourish and pulled it all back with a headband, to let her gold lids and nude-pink lips take center stage.
During her media tour for Disney’s Queen of Katwe film in October 2016, Nyong’o wore an array of colorful, elaborately-tied head wraps. Here, the actress played off a few of the colors in her headpiece with a greet cat eye and blue eye shadow run under the lash line. A spicy orange lip grounded the entire look.
Swoop, There It Is
For the 2015 SAG Awards, Nyong’o went with an updo that combined a set of swooping cornrows and a crown braid encircling a glorious tuft of her 4c texture. Glossy red lips and an understated eye were just the thing to go with her elaborate style.
At Cannes in 2015, a voluminous, textured bun, embellished headband, and purple pout complemented the actress’s Gucci gown.
All Tied Up
For the Kenzo X H&M launch in October 2015, Nyong’o kept the makeup fresh and instead let her hairstyle (and outfit) do the talking. Her briaded updo was punctuated by some colorful ribbon woven into the look.
For the Star Wars: The Force Awakens European premiere in December 2015, the actress went all-out futuristic with a netted pompadour and metallic blue lips.
Twistin’ the Night Away
Sculptural twists sat atop the actress’s tapered cut at the MTV Movie Awards in April 2014. Slate gray metallic lids and a neutral lip paired well with Nyong’o’s otherwise colorful look.
The actress’ 2014 Oscars look is one that we won’t soon forget. Her clean, tapered cut was uplifted by a thin, sparkly headband, while neutral makeup made for a timeless look.
